So, according to the NYTimes, if you have any concerns about the future of this country and think that having a large, culturally and legally detached foreign nationals in this country is a problem, you are evil and want to squish the hearts of immigrants. So, this is how the Left wants to carry out debates on national policy? The Left is always whining about having “national dialogs” on various policies, particularly in the period when the GOP controlled both the Hill and the White House. Apparently, this does not apply when those of use on the Right are the ones saying “hey, wait a minutes.”

My answer was Dove Energy Glow Skin Brightening Facial Cleanser. This stuff was GREAT!!! And we all know how much I am a fool for Dove products. The copy reads “contains energy-rich moisturizers, vitamins and exfoliating beads to brighten and smooth. It reduces the appearance of fine dry lines and reveals more evenly toned skin. Brightened and smoothed, your skin feels fresh and soft and looks more youthful.”

My skin felt great…and not dry at all. SCORE!! Bonus was that I got the little glow that all of the energy glow products provide PLUS I hardly had to use any moisturizer so it was a win/win situation. So if you are looking for an inexpensive alternative or you are in a pinch. Give the Dove cleansers a whirl.
I have not called the fertility doctor to schedule my tests - jazz theory
latin jazz
this is jazz
I don’t really know what to do because we just can’t afford to pay for all the testing ourselves right now. I’ve been meaning to call my insurance company and check all the details with them because the policy says that they pay for tests related to fertility but not for consultations and treatments. But I just have not had time to call them (I hate dealing with insurance companies) and frankly I’ve just been ignoring the whole thing. I was supposed to schedule the tests on the first day of my period (which is today) but I guess we’ll have to wait for the next cycle until I resolve the whole insurance issue.

Bush Tries To Stroke Putin
Tsar Putin the First has recently threatened to target nuclear missiles against European civilian targets if we move forward with plans for a limited BMD system to protect Europe against a possible strike from Iran. Which would actually seem to justify the need for a much larger missile defense system, given that Russia obviously feels that anything that could possibly hamper its ability to threaten the murder of tens of millions of civilians is a challenge to its power.

In the “Slanguage” dictionary (Hulk smash!), they even mention how they adopted jargon to shorten headlines…but some of the jargon is LONGER than or just as long as the original word or words it replaces.

But the arrogant jargon isn’t the worst thing about Variety. What really chafes my chaps* is when the writer of the article completely abandons propper grammar and sentence structure for NO REASON. . . to wit:
Morrison scored 25 today against Oklahoma State and no shot was bigger in the game then the one with 2.5 seconds left on the clock. Gonzaga was down 62-61 with 9 seconds left and Adam Morrison took the ball the length of the court and bombed a three that kissed off the backboard and went in. The Zags won 64-62 and Morrison continues to show why many think he is the best caucasian player since Larry Bird.

Pete Carroll Staying Put

At least for now and he absolutely should stay with USC. Pete Carroll has created a dominant progam and is shooting for his third straight national championship. I think Pete made a smart decision by not entertaining the NFL again at this time because I sure do remember his NFL days and they were not pretty!
“Grass, who joins the studio in October, will be prexy of production for Universal Pictures Intl. Move comes as U ramps up its worldwide acquisitions and local-language productions in a bid for the growing overseas market.”

The unnecessary dropping of an article from a sentence is journalistic sloppiness, done simply to sound trendy.

Does anyone else agree with me, or am I being stupid?

*Note: I do not now, nor have I ever owned chaps. But I’m a sucker for aliteration.

A quick review of our AAS market analysis indicates that the Large Cap holdings are leading the market of late with Large Cap Value being the style of choice. However, interestingly we see Small Cap Growth again begin to emerge as a Style leader after having slowed down over the past several months. This supports the shift taking place in our market model mentioned above.

Currently we are rating six of the ten S&P Sectors as AAS Buy’s led by Energy Select Sector SPDR (XLE), iShares S&P Global Telecom (IXP), Industrial SPDR (XLI), Technology SPDR (XLK), Materials SPDR (XLB) and Health Care SPDR (XLV).

Alpha Generating Equities to look at from within these sectors include:

It seems that Derek Jeter is getting pissed off because of the lack of moves thus far during the offseason for the Yankees. What’s the matter Derek, Steinnuts spends his ass of every year, maybe a payroll of 300 million would suit your fancy. The fact is, your reign is over. Face it, what made your team great in the late 90’s was lack of ego’s on the team. You were a pup back then and got a lot of the credit. You’re starting to become a “has been”. Why don’t you tell the brass to stop going after the high dollar free agents and stick to the way you built your team in the 90’s, by way of the farm system!!! Get a life!!

I can understand why and how an industry publication that’s not meant to be viewed by the general public would adopt certain jargon. And the fact is Variety is an industry publication, despite the fact that its website has thrown it more into the public eye. Nevertheless, the opening paragraph in the “Slanguage Dictionary” (RAAAAR!) shows just how much the magazine tried to shoehorn itself to be an “in the know” exclusive trade publication that normal people just won’t “get”. Most industry jargon develops naturally, be it through the need for brevity or some other reason. But to adopt such arrogant language simply because you want your magazine to be an insider-only publication. . . to alienate the general public just because you can . . . that’s just stupid.

St. Peter-Marian Boys Tennis Makes Districts

That headline might not mean anything to anyone reading this, but for me it means a lot.

As a senior co-captain on the SPM tennis team I helped lead us to the Central Mass. District D2 Championship. I had been on the team since 7th grade, and it was an amazing way to end my senior year. With not much depth and myself and another talented senior leaving, we weren’t sure what would become of the team this season.

Elie Wiesel And Ahmadinejad

September 14, 2006 @ 12:51 pm - Filed under Moran

It seems that the so-called “free world” (read: US and Israel) has found a new boogeyman in Mahmoud Ahmadinejad.

If the Holocaust-denying, nuclear bomb-building, terrorism-sponsoring president of Iran thinks he’s going to flit into New York next week for the U.N. General Assembly and escape unchallenged, boy is he going to be in for a surprise. Nobel laureate Elie Wiesel yesterday added his name to a small but high-powered international group of private citizens who are pushing to have Iran thrown out of the United Nations in response to Iran’s violations of the 1948 Convention to Prevent and Punish the Crime of Genocide.

In principle, I support Mr. Wiesel’s condemnation of Mr. Ahmadinejad.

Resolution 248: ” . . . ‘condesub topics

mns’ Israel for its massive attack on Karameh in Jordan”.

Resolution 252: ” . . . ‘declares invalid’ Israel’s acts to unify Jerusalem as Jewish capital”.

Resolution 256: ” . . . ‘condemns’ Israeli raids on Jordan as ‘flagrant violation”.

Resolution 259: ” . . . ‘deplores’ Israel’s refusal to accept UN mission to probe occupation”.

Resolution 262: ” . . . ‘condemns’ Israel for attack on Beirut airport”.

Resolution 265: ” . . . ‘condemns’ Israel for air attacks for Salt in Jordan”.

Resolution 270: ” . . . ‘condemns’ Israel for air attacks on villages in southern Lebanon”.

Resolution 271: ” . . . ‘condemns’ I
After returning from our freshman years at college, my buddy Matt and I went back to check in on the team, and were surprised to see an even better team than last year, thanks to the improvement of returning players and the addition of another talented doubles player. But they had a tough regular season, and needed a couple clutch wins over tough opponents to finish out the season. Well that they did, and they have made the districts, enabling them to defend last year’s title. And on top of that, the first doubles team has advanced to the semi-finals of the Central Mass. individuals tournament by defeating our archrivals, St. John’s.

Linda Cohn teased features on LeBron James, Roger Clemens and Joe Torre, but not a single word about Game One of the Stanley Cup Finals.

If it doesn’t happen on ESPN, it just doesn’t happen. But you knew that already.

UPDATE: ESPN just mentioned hockey in the latest tease after the Jazz-Spurs playoff game.

Religious fundamentalism is not an exclusive trait of Islam, as the Pope would have you believe.

Speaking in tongues, weeping for salvation, praying for an end to abortion and worshipping a picture of President Bush — these are some of the activities at Pastor Becky Fischer’s Bible camp in North Dakota, “Kids on Fire,” subject of the provocative new documentary, “Jesus Camp.”

“I want to see them as radically laying down their lives for the gospel as they are in Palestine, Pakistan and all those different places,” Fisher said. “Because, excuse me, we have the truth.”

“A lot of people die for God,” one camper said, “and they’re not afraid.”

“We’re kinda being trained to be warriors,” said another, “only in a funner way.”

The film has caused a split among evangelicals. Some say it’s designed to demonize. Others have embraced it, including Fischer, who’s helping promote the film.

“I never felt at any point that I was exploited,” Fischer said.

“I think there is a push right now in a lot of evangelical churches to definitely keep the teenagers and keep the children in the faith,” said Heidi Ewing, co-director of “Jesus Camp.” “And this is one version of that attempt.”

It will be interesting to see how these kids turn out. Will they be the future leaders of this country?

No words are necessary.

Well, it looks pretty damn good. Now, for some details.

The Zune, manufactured by Japanese electronics maker Toshiba Corp., will come with a 3-inch (7.6 centimeter) liquid crystal display screen and wireless connectivity that allows users to send, receive photos, songs and albums with nearby players, Microsoft said.

Zune users who receive songs can listen to each one three times over three days before having to purchase it themselves, The Associated Press reported.
Stanley Cup Finals Game One Snapshots

* First, check out the NHL Fan House live blog with J.P. and G-Dub. There’s insight, analysis and plenty of humor. Great job, guys.

* For the Ducks, the game was the story of four power plays: The first two where Ottawa cashed in, and then the 5-on-3 in the second period and the 6-on-4 late in the third where the Ducks looked like a completely different team.

If Anaheim can stay out of the box and Sami Pahlsson can resist the urge of trying to use his own stick to flip J.S. Giguere’s back to him, Ottawa will be in real trouble 5-on-5.

* Moen-Pahlsson-Niedermayer erased Heatley-Spezza-Alfredsson. Bad news for Ottawa. Start playing with a mean streak and finish some checks. Spezza especially was practically invisible.

* Don’t blame Ray Emery or Anton Volchenko

bummarketing
bass hunter fans
v. Emery made a number of third period saves that kept the game tied, while Volchenkov, as J.P. pointed out, blocked 10 shots.

* As great as Anaheim played 5-on-5, they were worthless with the man advantage, going 0-for-4. Ottawa was 2-for-7, and played with confidence and command early on.

* You could see Anaheim has confidence in their game plan, as they didn’t look any different 5-on-5 at any point during the game, even when they were down a goal, something we saw a couple of times in previous rounds.

* Both teams played this game in fifth gear from the opening faceoff. There was speed, there was physicality, there was emotion, everything you could possibly want in a hockey game.

* Though I’m not sure these two teams can stand the pounding, please, please, please give us seven games of this sort of hockey.

The Indian outsourcing market, which includes services such as call centres, back office operations and IT services is forecast to grow from $2.3 billion in 2002 to $8.5 billion in 2008, according to NASSCOM, the Indian lobbying organisation. The global market is forecast to grow to between $200 billion and $250 billion in 2008.

Bangalore, India’s leading “offshoring” city, recently claimed it was on the verge overtaking Silicon Valley as the leading IT employment centre in the world, such is the volume of work being outsourced from overseas there.

Case in point: in a Law.com interview, Mark LeHocky, general counsel at Dreyer’s Grand Ice Cream, advocates the use of early dispute resolution to keep costs down and prevent disputes from, in his words, “metastasizing”. As LeHocky explains,

…Litigation costs typically account for the biggest portion of expenditures that companies spend on outside counsel. And the proper management of disputes is in turn the biggest cost control opportunity most companies have before them…
More often than not, disputes go on longer than they should and become bigger than they need to be due to misunderstandings as to facts as much as legal issues. Sorting those items out as soon as possible is the best for everyone concerned and helps to avoid the unnecessary buildup of litigation fees and other costs. That doesn’t mean we don’t litigate. We do so when the situation warrants and we use the best and the brightest lawyers. But that happens only after we have pursued the early dispute resolution path in rigorous fashion.

With thanks to Stephanie West Allen who pointed me to the post on the excellent blog Law Department Management linking to the interview.)

Chicken peacekeepers mediate bunny turf war

Chickens mediate bunny turf warHere in Massachusetts, although technically it’s Tuesday, today is our work week Monday. How come? Yesterday was Patriots’ Day, a state holiday which commemorates the battles of Lexington and Concord in the American Revolutionary War
… I actively pursue a package of early dispute resolution tools — starting with a disciplined internal review process and the use of mediation and other ADR devices regardless of the perceived strengths and weaknesses of the positions of each dispute matter. I have served as a mediator for the federal courts for 10 years — one of my few pro bono activities now that my kids are grown up enough that I can stop coaching soccer teams. That experience, together with my background in private practice, has transformed my thinking about how disputes arise and, more importantly, how they grow and metastasize unnecessarily.

GE Sells India Outsourcing Unit
INDOlink reports General Electric sold a majority stake in its Indian outsourcing arm for $500m to two private equity firms. The deal gives US-based General Atlantic Partners and Oak Hill Capital Partners a 60% stake in GE Capital International Services (GECIS).

GECIS is a pioneer in the lucrative global outsourcing industry. GE was one of the first American companies to outsource back-office work to India in an effort to save costs. GECIS employs 17,000 people, some 12,000 of whom are in India.

ABS-CBNNEWS.COM reports the latest trend among medical transcription companies in the Phillipines is to provide Technical Education and Skills Development Authority or TESDA-certified medical transcription courses to enhance the quality of experts in the country and improve its competitiveness in securing more outsourcing opportunities from the call center industry.

“TESDA certification gives a benchmark or standard level of excellence. Certification is the first step of ensuring quality and assures the people enrolled in the courses that they have the facilities available to them and that the company is not a fly-by-night operation. After all, people will spend five months of training on these courses and they would spend money,” said e-Scribir president Johnny Garcia during the inauguration of the company’s TESDA-certified medical transcription course.

As an attorney who no longer practices traditional law but has spent the past decade as a mediator helping people resolve disputes both within and outside of the legal system, I have many colleagues in the bar who are committed to these kind of innovations in the practice of law and the resolution of disputes. Many are outspoken advocates of these new ways of thinking and work to transform and reinvigorate the practice of law.

Many of them strive to illuminate for the legal profession as well as the public the art and creativity within the practice of law and to help attorneys reclaim the dignity and meaning in what is still an honorable profession.

Outsourcing Consolidation Wave
Forbes.com reports the business-process outsourcing sector is in the midst of a consolidation wave.

“The most important factor in a BPO acquisition is scale,” says Brad Smith, vice president of research at Kennedy Information. Because BPO is a low-margin, process-driven business, transaction volume is a crucial determinant of profitability–particularly in the finance, accounting and human resource spaces, which Smith says are likely to see the most consolidation activity.

“Unless you’re a fantastic niche player, you’re going to have a tough time surviving in today’s BPO market,” says Atul Vashistha, chief executive of NeoIT, an offshore advisory firm. “Customers have a lot of choices so they can say they won’t trust a small startup company.”

House Still for Sale - Phoenix Arizona Area
Does it seem to those of you who have sold their homes in the past that we tend to do more to sell it than when we were living in it? It seems that way to me. Oh, don’t get me wrong, we have done tons while living here, a huge work shop, ceiling fans, etc. But two days ago we decided no one would want to buy 1/3 acre of dirt, so we went down to Moon Valley Nursery and bought a few trees.
My back yard had multiple mounds, big ones. I have no fire ants in almost 2 years. This is probably a lifetime supply.

These are Micro Fiber Auto Cloths. I got mine at my Costco. This is my second pack, as Costco is sort of weird on how they stock products. Somethings are there forever, some vanish in days.

These are absolutely amazing. A friend of mine uses them for dusting his gloss black scooters, and swears by them. My mechanic uses them and swears by them as well. Hell and I thought when I bought them, I was on to something. When I told my friends about them, they drug theirs out. Besides holding dust, and cleaning real well, they are increadible sponges, for picking up spills and holding water. They wring out almost dry which is an added plus.

I haven’t has a chance to try them for staining wood or using them for faux finishes, but they probably won’t dissapoint here either. Highly Recommended.

Labtec Media Keyboard

One of the things you need for surfing is a Keyboard and Mouse for surfing. Until now I have not used wireless K/M because of all the aggravation I watch other folks go through and the amount of time I have spent replacing batteries, and getting the computer to remember the software to drive them. Setups to use all the ‘extra’ buttons has been a hassle in times past.
